The SÜDPACK Group continues to make consistent progress in implementing its Sustainability Strategy for 2030. Its newly published sixth Sustainability Report, covering 2024 and 2025, presents the film manufacturer’s latest projects and initiatives, documents measurable progress in almost all areas of action, and demonstrates its continued commitment to advancing sustainability.

Sustainability is more than a key issue for SÜDPACK – it is a strategic building block that brings Circular Economy, Climate and Nature, and Social Responsibility together into a mutually reinforcing system and embeds this approach across all areas of the business and beyond its own operations.

The report combines validated materiality findings, specific goals, and KPIs with reliable progress data, allowing SÜDPACK to measure and steer its sustainability efforts more effectively. During the reporting period, the company continued to translate its strategy into practice through clear responsibilities and goals, and in some areas extended it across the entire Group. The Sustainability function reports directly to the Management Board. This allows emerging topics to be prioritized more quickly and the strategy to be refined on an ongoing basis.

Products and innovations

A key focus is on monomaterial PP- and PE-based films. SÜDPACK is expanding capacity in this area through investments at the Erolzheim site and in new extrusion lines. Recycling-compatible films currently account for 27% of sales volume. At the same time, given the challenging economic climate in Germany, manufacturers and retailers remain cautious about switching to modern mono-material structures.

The PPWR and CSRD are also driving closer dialogue across the value chain. Recent developments include PE pouch solutions from the CarbonLite® product family, the NutriGuard® mono-material blister concept for nutraceuticals, and advanced high-performance PP films. Additional goals have also been set for Design for Recycling, PCR content, and CO2e intensity and are being implemented progressively.

Climate and Nature

SÜDPACK views climate action and nature conservation as a responsibility that spans generations and is vital to the quality of life, economic stability, and prosperity of future societies. At all its production sites, the company is working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, use energy more efficiently, and promote more climate-friendly solutions across the value chain.

The Near-Term targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) provide the framework for ambitious projects, including a 76% reduction in direct and energy-related emissions by 2030 compared with 2021. By 2025, SÜDPACK had already achieved 96% of this reduction target.

Progress in Scope 3 has been more modest, but is still noteworthy, especially considering that the categories “Purchased Goods and Services” and “End-of-Life Treatment of Sold Products” alone account for 85% of these emissions. Even so, SÜDPACK has already achieved 64% of its 2030 Near-Term reduction target, which aims to reduce indirect emissions in the “Purchased Goods and Services” category by 25%.

In 2025, 92% of the electricity used across the SÜDPACK Group came from renewable sources. At the same time, energy consumption fell by 2.6% compared with 2024 and by 19% overall compared with the 2021 base year.

Water and biodiversity are also becoming increasingly important to SÜDPACK. Although water is currently less significant due to the company’s relatively low consumption, both water and the closely related area of biodiversity will be more firmly embedded in SÜDPACK’s strategy going forward.

More comprehensive supply chain data

SÜDPACK is also making its supply chain more transparent. Its supply chain approach is guided by the materiality analysis and the requirements of SA8000. SÜDPACK can now track progress more clearly through sustainability ratings and supplier PCF/LCA data. Sustainability ratings currently cover 78% of purchasing volume.

In its 2025 EcoVadis rating, SÜDPACK achieved an overall score of 86 out of 100, once again placing it among the top 1% of companies assessed. The greatest improvements were in Ethics and Sustainable Procurement, while its performance in the Environment and Labor and Human Rights categories remained strong.

The average EcoVadis score of SÜDPACK’s listed suppliers also improved, with more than 95% now achieving at least 45 points. By 2030, the aim is for 90% of supplier spend to be covered by EcoVadis or an equivalent rating system.
