SÜDPACK nominated for 2022 Environment Award

As recently as June, SÜDPACK was named the 36th most sustainable company out of over 4,000 businesses in WirtschaftsWoche’s cross-sector sustainability ranking and in early August, it also entered the Top 10 of Germany’s most innovative SMEs. Now, the global film manufacturer has been nominated in the ‘Industrial company with more than 250 employees’ category for the renowned 2022 Environment Award of the State of Baden-Württemberg, which comes with a total prize fund of EUR 60,000.

For the 20th time, this coveted environmental award for companies’ outstanding ecological and climate protection achievements, as well as sustainable management, is being presented by the State of Baden-Württemberg. Applicants must meet a wide variety of requirements, ranging from ecology-focused corporate management, to resource-saving production processes and the development of sustainable products. The winners are chosen by a panel of representatives from business organizations, research institutions, environmental and conservation associations, trade unions and LUBW Landesanstalt für Umwelt, as well as the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection and Energy Sector. The aim is to publicize the companies’ various, innovative approaches to sustainability and encourage further action.

SÜDPACK’s application in the ‘Industrial company with more than 250 employees’ category impressed the discerning panel during Phase 1 and was subsequently shortlisted. Phase 2 of the application marathon is also now complete: during intense discussions and a tour of the SÜDPACK company, members of the panel learned about its comprehensive sustainability roadmap, achievements to date and scheduled projects with regard to operational environmental protection at SÜDPACK. “During this visit, we were able to give the panel a detailed picture of our sustainability actions and hopefully convince them of our achievements,” says Carolin Grimbacher, Managing Partner of the company group.

As part of its sustainability strategy, the industry’s innovation and technology leader essentially concentrates on three aspects: circular economy, climate protection and social responsibility. The primary focus is the development of high-performance films and packaging concepts that boast excellent material efficiency and recyclability. In addition, SÜDPACK not only invests in its own, intelligent material management, but is also a huge contributor to the development of the innovative CARBOLIQ technology as a supplementary recycling process on the market, in order to retain existing plastics in the cycle and save resources.

SÜDPACK has now been nominated for the 2022 Environment Award. Whether the innovative, conscientious family firm will actually be presented with the 2022 Environment Award will be decided in the coming weeks – the winners will be announced in December 2022 in Stuttgart.
