July 17, 2026, marked an important milestone in SÜDPACK Medica’s history, with the official opening of the film and packaging manufacturer’s significantly expanded plant in Coulmer, France. The ceremony was attended by numerous local dignitaries, project partners, neighbors, employees, members of the Management Board, and representatives of the press.
The groundbreaking ceremony on September 19, 2023, marked the launch of what was, at the time, SÜDPACK’s largest single investment project. Nearly three years later, the site – certified to ISO 13485 (medical devices and diagnostics) and ISO 15378 (primary packaging materials – GMP) – now offers expanded capacity for the production of high-quality primary packaging for pharmaceuticals and sterile barrier systems for medical device and diagnostic applications. As part of the expansion, the plant’s ISO Class 7 and 8 cleanroom production areas were almost doubled in size. Production at the Coulmer site focuses on the MedGuard product line, which includes pouch systems and other packaging concepts for applications such as implants, surgical kits, wound care products, and surgical textiles. The site also manufactures header bags specifically designed for large-volume medical devices that typically undergo ETO sterilization.
The expansion underscores SÜDPACK’s strong commitment to the Orne region – and to Europe. It is also a direct response to steadily growing demand from the medical device, pharmaceutical, and sterile products industries for film and packaging concepts that meet the most stringent requirements for quality, process control, safety, particulate cleanliness, sterility, and regulatory compliance. At the same time, the expansion is a key investment in the future. Coulmer plays a major role in developing future-ready, PPWR-compliant solutions for the life sciences sector, including recyclable mono-PE concepts designed to replace conventional PA/PE laminates. For SÜDPACK, however, the expansion is first and foremost a commitment to quality for its customers. It now enables higher-volume production under cleanroom conditions across the entire process chain – from film production to the finished pouch – ensuring consistently high quality, security of supply, and reliability.
At the official opening ceremony, SÜDPACK’s senior leadership – owners Johannes Remmele and Carolin Grimbacher, CEO Thorsten Seehars, COO Christoph Angstl, and Site Manager Samuel Wilquin – welcomed SÜDPACK Advisory Board member Karl-Josef Keller, Board of Directors member Reto Garzetti, employees, project partners, representatives of the local media, and senior political and administrative officials. Among them were Thierry Liger, Member of the French National Assembly for Orne’s 2nd constituency; Marc Salmon, Mayor of Gacé; François Roumier, Deputy Mayor of Coulmer; and Chloé Jockel of the Communauté de communes des Vallées d’Auge et du Merlerault (CDC VAM).
