SÜDPACK is committed to a sustainable packaging industry
Approximately 65 editors and business journalists registered and logged in to the first virtual SÜDPACK press conference on 7 July 2021. The film manufacturer deliberately chose the digital format in order to provide both the national and international press with comprehensive information about “Sustainability at SÜDPACK” even during the corona pandemic. The first virtual SÜDPACK exhibition also launched at the same time and its digital doors are now open to customers and interested parties around the clock, 365 days a year.

A milestone in the recyclability of plastics
On 2 February 2021, a truck filled with crude oil, which was recovered by chemically recycling reusable materials from SÜDPACK, left the RECENSO pilot plant in Ennigerloh near Münster. The goal of the strategic collaboration is to take reusable materials that cannot currently be mechanically recycled and recycle them on an industrial scale using the CARBOLIQ process to recover raw materials and consequently close further loops in the packaging industry.
SÜDPACK acquires LPF
On 1 February 2021, SÜDPACK will acquire LPF Flexible Packaging B.V. (“LPF”) from the Clondalkin Group. The company, located in Grootegast, the Netherlands, is a leading manufacturer of high barrier films for sensitive products. LPF was founded in 1907 and has long-standing experience in the development and production of packaging materials. For SÜDPACK, the acquisition is a further key element in its long-term growth strategy.
Sustainability Report by SÜDPACK
For the third time now, SÜDPACK has voluntarily published an extensive sustainability report. The current publication transparently communicates the progress made in 2018 and 2019 in the fields of environment, economy and social responsibility. Some of the most notable focal points include the roadmap for sustainable film packaging from SÜDPACK as well as the implementation of reusable material loops within the company itself.
Chemical Recycling - Dialog Forum
On October 13, BASF organized a virtual dialogue forum to discuss in particular the environmental aspects of chemical recycling. It featured various experts as well as BASF's project partners, who were available to answer questions in a subsequent discussion round.
SÜDPACK opens new site in Erolzheim
In a frame adapted to the current situation the opening of the new SÜDPACK production site in Erolzheim was celebrated on 6 October 2020 after two years of construction. After consultation with the regional authorities, the hygiene concept that had been worked out complied with the regulations for events. With the cutting-edge complex, SÜDPACK is not only significantly enhancing its production capacity – with the fully automated state-of-the-art logistic center, the film manufacturer will now also be able to more efficiently supply customers around the world. The buildings provide a usable area of 18,800 m², and the total investment amounted to roughly 40 million euros. Approximately 100 employees will work at the new site.
Plastic waste as a valuable resource – SÜDPACK invests in joint project with RECENSO
SÜDPACK advocates the establishment of chemical recycling as a complementary technology to mechanical recycling, which has not been suitable for processing the complex laminated films of the packaging industry. Collaboration with RECENSO, a specialist in the implementation of systems for resource recovery, marks an initial pioneering step by the leading film manufacturer towards an efficient circular economy in the market.

One thing is clear: Plastics are a valuable material and do not belong in the environment. For this reason, SÜDPACK has been involved in the “Zero Pellet Loss” initiative of the German Trade Association for Plastic Packaging since 2016. This initiative aims to prevent plastic pellets from entering the environment or sewage system, where they can subsequently contaminate coastal areas and seas.

SÜDPACK bolsters its production capacities in the print sector
SÜDPACK is expanding the production plant at its site in Klobuck near Czestochowa, Poland. In an official ceremony marking the occasion on July 15, 2020, ground was broken for an extensive in-vestment at the site. A state-of-the-art complex is being built at the site of a company SÜDPACK acquired in 2015, Bahpol, which primarily specializes in flexo print. The new facility is expected to begin operating at the end of 2021.

Thinking outside the box: SÜDPACK presents innovative packaging concepts for minced meat
Ochsenhausen, 04 June 2020 - A new look for a kitchen classic from the refrigerated section: SÜDPACK is launching two innovative packaging concepts for minced meat that do without bottom trays. What is more, the two concepts are mono-material packaging solutions based on polypropylene (PP). They stand out for their excellent recyclability and significantly lower material consumption compared to standard packaging, which makes these solutions especially resource-saving, while also scoring in terms of sustainability at the point of sale.

SÜDPACK Group Appoints a New Management Spokesperson
Ochsenhausen, 9. September 2019 – SÜDPACK Verpackungen GmbH & Co. KG, a leading supplier of film packaging solutions for food and medical products, has appointed a new management spokesperson: as of 9th September 2019, Erik Bouts will take over from the previous spokesperson and managing partner, Johannes Remmele. Over the coming months, Remmele will gradually step back from operational management.

SÜDPACK builds new logistics center in Erolzheim
Südpack Verpackungen GmbH & Co. KG is building a new logistics center for storing and shipping their packaging solutions in Erolzheim. The packaging specialists gain an additional location in close proximity to the headquarters in Ochsenhausen. In addition to the existing storage capacities, the new site, which is expected to be operational by 2020, is ideally located due to its excellent transport links to supply SÜDPACK's German and European customers centrally and efficiently. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new logistics center took place on April 23, 2018.

The Interpack 2017 was the perfect opportunity to present the online shop to the public for the first time. At the SÜDPACK exhibition stand, visitors were able to find out more about the online shop for digitally printed films via two terminals. Interested persons were advised by the digital printing team and were able to directly place an order via a test access: select film, upload print data, choose delivery date, submit and done!
