The new, refined Multipeel® film from SÜDPACK Verpackungen GmbH & Co. KG opens like a dream, reseals just as easily, is tasteless and odourless, and is also available as a resealable version for flow-wrap packaging for the first time.

Food packaging that is difficult to open or hard to reseal is equally annoying for consumers and food producers alike. Older consumers and children – two key target groups – in particular lack strength and are put off by packaging that is difficult to open. This means the loss of potentially valuable customers. SÜDPACK has come up with a solution to these problems with its third generation of Multipeel® films. Using a new adhesive composition, the developers at SÜDPACK have reduced the tearing strength by 30 percent in comparison with the first and second-generation Multipeel® films. “This lower tearing strength makes packaging much easier to open, is therefore more user-friendly, and increases acceptance among end consumers. For senior citizens and children, opening and resealing meat or cheese packaging is now a piece of cake,” says the Managing Director of SÜDPACK, Johannes Remmele, describing the advantages of the new film.

It’s not only the initial peel strength that has been substantially reduced – the secondary peel strength when the packaging is torn open further is also far lower. This ensures that the second stage of the opening process is also very gentle and avoids a zipping effect.

The third generation: Flexible, easy to process, perfect for printing on
When optimising the film, SÜDPACK’s developers had their eye on the processors as well as the end customers: The new Multipeel® from SÜDPACK is more flexible than ever before when it comes to resealing. The adhesive layer can be incorporated into the lower and upper films, irrespective of their barrier properties. The outstanding transparency of the upper and lower films has been retained, as has the excellent thermoforming capability of the Multipeel® base lower film. Of course, the film can be printed on in both flexoprint and rotogravure as before. The EVOH version of the latest generation of Multipeel® film reaches the barrier layer level already as a duplex variant, making it particularly durable and easy on resources.

MULTIPEEL® flow-wrap aimed at new target markets
The unique Multipeel® flow-wrap film from SÜDPACK opens up completely new potentials, offering the first resealable closure for tubular bags that does not require any special adjustments to the machines. “We’re addressing a completely new target group here,” explains Johannes Remmele. The Multipeel ® film makes an interesting alternative to conventional flow-wrap packaging for confectionary and nut suppliers or producers of snacks and cheese cubes, for instance. In the future, Jelly babies, peanuts, and biscuits can also be kept fresh for longer after opening.

Benefits of MULTIPEEL® at a glance
The third-generation Multipeel® film can be processed easily by existing packaging machines. It particularly stands out for its combination of easy opening and improved tearing strength. The new film also offers the following benefits:

  • Outstanding visual appearance and transparency
  • Optimum opening function
  • Excellent resealing capability
  • Odourless and tasteless
  • Excellent transparency of lower film
  • Optimum technical handling (trouble-free processing and cutting of the packaging)
  • Also suitable for flow-wrap packaging

“With this refined development, we can offer the market an optimum combination of easy opening and resealing. The new generation of Multipeel® sets us apart from the competition once again and gives our customers a competitive edge,” says Malte Rahneberg, Sales Director for Germany and Austria.

One of SÜDPACK’s most important customers – Nordmilch AG from Bremen – is also delighted with the new film composition: “For our self-service MILRAM cheese slices, we only use Multipeel® films from SÜDPACK. We and our customers, in particular, are impressed by this new film’s excellent opening capability, great functionality, and appealing visual appearance,” says Bernd Semken, Head of Purchasing for Direct Materials at NORDMILCH.
